Bijapur: 2 Naxals killed in police ops
At least two suspected Maoists were on Wednesday killed in a fierce encounter with security personnel at Gornamathali in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, the police said.
The police suspects four more ultras may have been killed in the two-hour long gun battle that began at around 6.45 pm in the forested village.
According to the police, a search party of the district force (DF), an anti-Naxal force of the Chhattisgarh police, was suddenly attacked by a group of armed insurgents, who were hiding in the forest at Gornamathali. The security personnel soon regrouped and retaliated, leading to the gun battle.

Scolded by teacher, girl ends life

Oct. 13: The 21-year-old daughter of a head constable, posted in the chief minister’s security, committed suicide by hanging herself late in the night on Tuesday.
The girl, identified as Rimjhim, is the daughter of head constable S.K. Singh. She was pursuing her BBA course from K.K.C. Degree College in Lucknow.
According to family sources, Rimjhim was visibly upset after her teacher allegedly tore up her assignment project on Monday and reprimanded her for sub standard work.

Orissa govt seeks urgent drought aid

Oct. 13: The Orissa government on Wednesday urged the Union government to “urgently” clear its outstanding drought assistance of `963 crores. It also requested the Centre to “sympathetically” consider the state’s demand for granting `1516.74 crores to meet the current year’s drought situation.
The government on Tuesday had declared 15 of 30 districts in the state as drought hit. A total of 10,440 villages were identified as drought-hit as more than 50 per cent of paddy crop was lost due to inadequate rainfall this monsoon.

Air Asia bonanza to 100th guest

Oct. 13: A young Indonesian woman will now be able to make 100 free trips to visit her Indian husband and his family in Tamil Nadu after being declared the 100 millionth guest on low-cost carrier Air Asia, the airline announced in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
Irma Dewi, 23, a resident of Jakarta, is a frequent visitor to India after her marriage to an Indian engineer C. Bharatiraja whom she met in Jakarta a few years ago. Irma has been a regular flyer to Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu from Jakarta via Kuala Lumpur.
