In Bihar, blankets lost in govt files
Even as Bihar shivers under a bitter cold wave for over the past two weeks and cold-related deaths are being reported, the files related to the distribution of blankets to the poor is making the rounds of the state secretariat.
The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U)-BJP government is yet to begin the distribution of blankets to the economically weaker sections of people because a proposal of the social welfare department has got delayed in getting cabinet approval due to technical and financial questions. It did not occur to the department’s officials that distribution of blankets usually got completed by January 14 every year.
Sources said the matter was attached low priority because the state government busied itself in high-impact issues like planning to attract investors to Bihar and streamline the visit of World Bank president Robert B. Zoellick.
