Bhanwari case: divers search canal
The CBI on Friday intensified its search operation to trace the watch of the 36-year-old auxiliary nurse-cum-folk singer, Bhanwari Devi, which was thrown into a canal near Jodhpur by her alleged killers.
Around 30 Rajasthan police divers were engaged by the CBI to trace Bhanwari’s watch and other belongings in the canal near Jodhpur on Thursday. The CBI had requested the Rajasthan government to stop the supply of water to the Rajiv Gandhi Canal; water supply was stopped for nearly seven hours.
CBI officials on Friday recovered a bag containing two country-made pistols and a wooden bat from the canal. They also took soil samples from near the canal for forensic examination. “It is suspected that the murderers might have used the wooden bat to kill Bhanwari. We cannot call it the murder weapon without proper forensic analysis,” sources said. “Kailash Jakhar, a key member of the Bishna Ram gang, told interrogators that he dumped Bhan-wari’s watch in the canal after burning her body near Jaloda area,” the sources claimed.
