Beer bottle burst kills class 9 boy
A 15-year-old boy, studying in class 9 at the government higher secondary school near here, died after the bottle of beer he had purchased from a Tasmac shop and concealed in his waist, burst.
Kausigan, son of Sasikumar of Dhyanapuram village, on Mannargudi road, about 5 km from Tiruvarur, and studying in the government higher secondary school in Vilamal village, on Thanjavur road, was living with his mother Parameswari in his uncle’s house as his father reportedly married another woman, sources said.
As usual, Kausigan was returning home in his bicycle from school on Monday evening when he purchased a bottle of beer from a Tasmac outlet in the area. Meaning to drink it later, he had concealed it in his waist.
When he neared Memangalam water tank, the bottle burst with a bang, causing bleeding injuries in his abdominal area, sources said.
Hearing his cries, some local residents rushed to his help and arranged to send him to the government medical college hospital in Tiruvarur where he died a little later.
Tiruvarur taluk police have registered a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of the IPC and are investigating.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy had purchased the beer for his own use, a senior police officer said.
