Bedi: All parties agree on CBI
Former police officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi, speaking to reporters after the two-day core committee meeting of the group, refuted suggestions that Wednesday’s all-party meeting had failed to arrive at a consensus. Ms Bedi said almost all the parties were unanimous on the CBI getting autonomy, which she said was the “key issue”.
She said: “You have the Samajwadi Party, BSP, Left, BJP asking for autonomy of the CBI.”
Another key Team Anna member, Arvind Kejriwal, agreed that it was wrong to say that there was no consensus. He spelt out: “There was consensus on many things. There could be some points (of disagreement).”
Mr Hazare said even if there was no consensus at the all-party meeting, it could be arrived at in Parliament. “All MPs are there, it will be passed there. Yesterday, people put forward the right points, some pointed out the deficiencies,” he added. Mr Hazare said he was confident Parliament would pass the Lokpal Bill. “Everybody in government has given me his assurance,” he said.
