Bardhan: UPA, BJD are working for capitalists
Communist Party of India (CPI) on Tuesday snubbed the UPA government at the Centre and the ruling BJD in Orissa saying that both the establishments were busy in addressing the interests of the capitalists.
Addressing a party convention here, veteran CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan said since 2,000 successive governments at the Centre, including the NDA, worked for protecting and promoting interests of the industrial and corporate houses instead of taking care of the concerns of the common man.
“In the last 12 years, the BJP-led NDA government and the UPA have given birth to 12,000 new capitalists. During this period, at least `20 lakh crores has gone to Swiss banks,” Mr Bardhan alleged.
Claiming that during the prices of essential commodities were under control during the period of H.D. Deve Gowda and I. K. Gujaral, the CPI general secretary said people were burdened with high rise in food and other basic items in the NDA and UPA regimes. The leader, who was one of the protagonists to forge a pre-poll alliance with the BJD in Orissa in 2009, fired salvos at the latter. He said under the present Naveen government, the economic condition of the people had deteriorated.
he said the image of the Naveen Patnaik government had already been “tainted” with numerous mining scam, irregularities in supply of food to school children and pregnant women.
