The Shiromani Akali Dal Legislature Party on Friday unanimously elected Mr Parkash Singh Badal as their leader, paving the way for creating history for his swearing-in as chief minister of Punjab for a fifth term.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Yaadgaar at Chhaparchiri in Ajitgarh district on March 14 at 11 am. Chairing a meeting of newly-elected SAD MLAs at Punjab Bhavan, Mr Parkash Singh Badal thanked all Punjabis for reiterating their faith in the programmes and policies of the SAD-BJP government and bringing back an incumbent government for a second term. Giving a call to collectively accelerate the pace of development in Punjab, he said the government will not indulge in petty vendetta politics, and will focus on pro-poor and pro-development policies and make all efforts to fulfil the aspirations of people.
Congratulating the people, Mr Badal said that besides making Punjab power surplus in the next two years, the state government would focus on completing the unfinished tasks of the last term. He also announced extension of the free bicycle scheme to girl students of Classes 9 and 10.
