B’lore: Armed gang rapes bartenders

Close on the heels of the suspected gang rape of a 20-year-old National Law School student on the Bangalore University campus, about seven women bartenders hailing from North Indian states were allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped at an isolated place by a group of 8-10 men at Kenchanapura in Nagadevanahalli around 1 am on Friday.
The place where the incident is said to have occurred, lies in the backyard of the Bangalore University.
The incident came to light when the security guard informed the owner of the bar who, in turn, informed the Bidadi police. It is said that the accused knocked on the door of the victims’ house at Kenchanapura around 12-30 am on Friday. Armed with lethal weapons, they barged into the house where there were seven women bartenders and one security guard, Purushottam, who had been deputed by the bar owner. The accused gang-raped three women, kidnapped the other four and robbed them of their valuables including Rs 15,000 cash, five gold rings and two gold chains, according to one of the victims.
The kidnapped women were taken to an isolated place on Magadi Raod in a Maruti Omni van and threatened into prostitution, which they refused. Later, they were dropped off near Sumanahalli junction, from where they returned home. The house was supposedly rented by the owner of Casino Bar in Gandhinagar.
The three victims of gang-rape were subjected to medical tests at Raja Rajeshwari Medical College and Hospital. Preliminary tests have confirmed that they were sexually assaulted and further reports are awaited, said a hospital source.
The seven victims had come to Bengaluru just a week ago. They would return home from wok around 12.30 am, and someone had keenly observed and plotted the crime, police said. All the seven victims were in the age group of 25-30 years and the accused were in the age group of 20-25 years.
Bidadi police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused. The police are trying to establish that whether the same gang was involved in the rape case of NLSIU student.
It is also said that the accused had videographed the rape and fled after threatening the victims of uploading it on the internet if the matter was reported to the police.
