Azhar son loses 5-day battle
Ayazuddin, second son of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, who was battling for his life in Apollo Hospital for the last five days, died on Friday morning.
Ayazuddin, 19, had sustained multiple injuries after he lost control of the Suzuki sports bike he was riding with his cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman as pillion, and crashed at Puppalguda on the Outer Ring Road on Sunday.
Explaining the injuries, Apollo Hospital’s CEO, Hari Prasad said that Ayazuddin had been on ventilator support for six days. He has suffered heavy internal bleeding and tests on Thursday showed injury to the brain. One of his kidneys too had to be removed. He confirmed the time of death as 11.51 am due to hypoxic encephalopathy, a condition where there is not enough oxygen getting to the brain.
A post-mortem was conducted at around 2:30 pm. Azharuddin was initially hesitant to sign the papers for the post-mortem but did so finally, according to a source. MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi assisted Azharuddin with all the formalities.
It was a double tragedy for the family. Sixteen-year-old Ajmal-ur-Rahman, who was riding pillion, died soon after being brought to the hospital. He was the son of Azharuddin’s sister and the grandson of former Rajya Sabha MP from Andhra Pradesh, Khaleel-ur-Rahman.
Family members, well-wishers, politicians and relatives rushed to the hospital when they heard the news of Ayazuddin’s death. Everyone was seen consoling Azharuddin and the family at the Apollo hospital on Friday morning. Sources said, “Azhar wept on hearing of his son’s death. Many came to meet him, and he was explaining what the doctors had told him.”
