Azam justifies ban on Rajnath’s visit
Senior UP minister Mohammed Azam Khan has said that BJP president Rajnath Singh was prevented from visiting Muzaffarnagar on Saturday in order to maintain peace and calm in the area.
“The district administration had a report about the possibility of another flare-up and in view of recent incidents; this report could not be ignored. Our priority is to ensure peace prevails in the region and that is why the BJP leader was not allowed to visit the area,” Mr Khan told reporters in Rampur on Sunday.
Mr Khan said that Rajnath Singh had been UP chief minister and should realise that certain decisions are taken to protect the law and order of the state.
Replying to a question about the detention of Yoga Guru Ramdev at London airport, Mr Khan said, “If security persons in Britain detained him on suspicion where is the reason to condemn them?” he asked. However, the minister said that the Centre should pay attention to such cases.
Mr Azam Khan, it may be recalled, had been detained in the United States of America earlier this year when he accompanied an official delegation to the Harvard University. Stung by the incident, he chose not to attend the Harvard function and returned to India.
“The British have been in the habit of insulting Indians visiting their country even for noble purposes. This situation needs government attention,” he said.
