Azad meets Sonia over Telangana
The controversy dogging the Congress over the demand for a separate state of Telangana may soon come to an end as the party leadership is keen to take a stand on it at the earliest.
According to sources, Congress general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh and Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad called on Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday and sought to impress on her the need to decide on the Telangana issue at the earliest. He also submitted a report in connection with it, sources said. Sources added that the report favours a decision on the controversial issue as early as possible so that any negative repercussions over the decision could be handled with ease. The report also points out that if the party dithers now and keeps on procrastinating, it could land the party in trouble at the time of 2014 elections.
The report further argues that if a decision, either way, is taken now, the party will have enough time to contain the negative fall-out and work on off-setting any prospective electoral setback.
