Azad: call off t-strike
The Congress on Sunday called on the agitating employees of the Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh to call off their strike so as to ensure that the general public is not put to any inconvenience during the ongoing festival season.
Talking to reporters, Union health minister and general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad said that though some organisations have returned to work, still a major portion of employees are on strike and they too should give up the agitation for the sake of the people. He said, “I would like to appeal to the employees of Telangana to call off the strike”.
He added, “There is a prolonged agitation in Telangana by employees of the state government. It is almost five weeks since it started. As a result, the general public is suffering, facing hardships particularly during the festival days.”
Stating that the next four months are very crucial for the state economically, he requested the striking workers to renounce their strike.
Calling on all MLAs and MPs to cooperate with the state government, Mr Azad emphasised that a decision on the controversial Telangana statehood demand will be taken soon, though he refused to set any timeframe for the same. “Decision would be taken soon but I cannot say how soon,” he said.
