Attempt to rob ATM fails, all on camera
Four masked men attempted to wipe off cash from an Axis Bank ATM at Sahara Estates in Vanasthalipuram in the wee hours of Saturday after tying the security guard’s hands and legs.
The attempt, however, failed after their repeated efforts and the whole event was captured in a close circuit camera fixed in the ATM booth.
According to police, the incident took place at around 3 am. Four men wearing monkey caps entered the ATM and tied-up 40 year-old Satyanarayana, the security guard, and one of them held him tightly so that he cannot move or raise an alarm.
A Vanasthalipuram police official said, “As per CCTV footage, the thieves were wearing monkey caps and donned jackets. They entered the ATM booth at 3.07 am and left at 3:13 am.”
They used drilling machine to damage the ATM machine, but failed, he added.
They left Satyanarayana inside the ATM booth and fled the spot before he loosened the knots. The guard, however said, he failed to notice that whether the thieves came on any vehicle.
Satyanarayana said, “I was panic-stricken. They entered suddenly and I could not do anything; I was scared that I would be killed.”
Police said there was approximately Rs 12 lakh cash in the ATM.
The police registered a complaint of attempt to robbery on the assailants and launched an investigation.
