Assocham gives growth plan to Akhilesh
The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has given a 30-point agenda for development to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The agenda, if implemented, will enable UP to achieve a double digit growth in the next decade.
Assocham is confident that it could work as a catalyst in the development of UP under the leadership of Mr Akhilesh Yadav who is a progressive and youth oriented leader.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Dr Lalit Khaitan, chairman Assocham (northern region development council) said that a delegation had met the chief minister and he had assured that his government would work closely with Assocham in ensuring the development of the state.
“We have asked the chief minister to upgrade the social and physical infrastructure in the PPP mode (public-private partnership) and introduce an investor friendly policy to boost development. The government should offer tax exemptions, lucrative incentives and subsidies to encourage investments from leading industrialists. In the first 100 days, the government must undertake the process of identification and acquisition of land to develop integrated townships,” he said.
Assocham has sought immediate focus of the Uttar Pradesh government on specific industries like cement, paper and pulp, leather, rubber and tyre, consumer durables, light machine tools and IT parks.
Assocham also wants the Uttar Pradesh government to attract foreign direct investment and promote the export of handicrafts, handlooms and textiles, apart from confectionaries, poultry and dairy products, leather products glassware and electronic hardware.
