Union home minister P. Chidambaram has asked the state government to intensify counter-insurgency operations against anti-talk faction of Ulfa and said that home ministry would consider the options of holding talks with anti-talk faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland only if they send a formal letter to the home ministry expressing their willingness for resolving the issue through talks.

Pointing out that Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi pleaded for releasing the NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary, security sources said that home ministry would consider the option of releasing Mr Daimary only after the formal letter of NDFB.
Asking the state to deal strongly with anti-talk Ulfa led by Paresh Baruah, security sources said that home ministry has also turned down the demand of state government for more paramilitary forces. Sources said the state government has also been asked to review the deployment of the paramilitary forces and ensure its optimum use for counter-insurgency operations in troubled area.
