Asha Bhosle’s 56-yr daughter kills herself
Varsha Bhosle, 56, daughter of renowned playback singer Asha Bhosle, reportedly committed suicide by shooting herself at her Peddar Road residence here, possibly late Sunday night. Varsha lived on the first floor of Prabhu Kunj building near Jaslok Hospital, the same building where singer Lata Mangeshkar, her aunt, lives. She was alone in the flat Sunday night as Asha Bhosle was at an awards function in Singapore, the police said.
“Varsha’s maid Dipali Mane reached her flat around 9.15 am Monday. Repeated ringing of the doorbell got no response, after which she altered Varsha’s driver, who said she might be sleeping. Mane left and returned at 10.15 am: when there was still no response, she called the driver. The two entered Ms Mangeshkar’s flat on the same floor, connected to the Bhosle flat. They found Varsha dead in the living room,” said additional commissioner of police (south) Krishna Prakash.
A police team found Varsha had a gunshot wound on her right temple, and a Belgian-made .67-bore pistol in her right hand. A preliminary examination suggested she had been dead for at least 12 hours.
