Asaram called for questioning
The Jodhpur police has dispatched two teams to Gujarat and Madhya Pardesh to investigate the sexual assault case against controversial godman Asaram Bapu. “One team is in Chhindwara while another is in Ahmadabad,” said deputy commissioner of police, Jodhpur, Ajaypal Lamba.
The women’s groups on Monday have protested against Bapu and demanded his immediate arrest. The agitated women activists took out a procession and reached the Assembly. “We sought his arrest. There should not be any further delay,” said Kavita Srivastva, who leads the protest.
The women also took to the streets in Udaipur and chanted slogans against the Congress and BJP. “It is shameful that the Congress government is doing nothing while the BJP leaders openly sided with Bapu,” said Sudha Chaudhary, an activist in Udaipur.
The police in Jodhpur said any further action will be taken only after questioning Bapu. “We have sent notices to Asaram and have asked him to appear before August 30 for questioning,” Mr Lamba said. Mr Lamba denied that any of section of the IPC was deleted against Asaram. Neither did we add any section nor any section was removed from the FIR,” he said.
The protesters said the security cover given to the godman be immediately withdrawn.
