Army version of BrahMos’test a success
India on Sunday successfully test-fired the supersonic BrahMos cruise missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, off the Orissa coast, nearly 200 km from here.
The flight test was part of the Indian Army’s user trials. It was test-fired from Launch Complex-3 at 10.30 am. All data is being retrieved for analysis, defence sources said.
“It was an experimental flight and the missile was tested successfully, meeting all mission objectives,” said test range director M.V.K.V. Prasad.
BrahMos’s last trial was conducted successfully on March 28, 2012. The 290-km surface-to-surface Army version missile can carry a 300 kg conventional warhead. The missile has already been inducted into the Army and Navy, while final trials are on for the Air Force version.
