Army neutralised 52 terrorists in ’10
Maintaining relentless pressure on the terror outfits operating in the Jammu region through a string of surgical operations, the security forces through precision have neutralised 52 terrorists so far since January 2010.
“Of the total neutralised ultras, the forces succeeded in eliminating 46 terrorists, including 20 top-ranked commanders till date since January 1, 2010. Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) suffered major losses as they lost their 24 and 15 ultras in the precision attacks by the forces following pro-active approach,” maintained a senior Army officer of 16 Corps.
The eliminated lot also included two JeM and three HuJI terrorists. Four militants were apprehended and two others were forced to surrender.
“Even the surviving cadres have been kept on the move without any respite as the forces are constantly on a hunt with an aim of seeking contact and neutralising them. This disarray and chaos has been brought about by increased and relentless pressure by the security forces, paucity of arms and ammunition and lack of local support with the terrorists,” the officer claimed. “Ever since December 2009, the Army has systematically neutralised over a dozen senior cadres of the HM and LeT in Kishtwar district. These neutralisations have made the area safer for the locals to live in,” the officer stated.
