Army chief General V.K. Singh offered cash to clear vehicles sale
In what could trigger fresh controversy, Army chief General V.K. Singh has claimed that he was offered a bribe of Rs. 14 crore to clear the sale of 'substandard' army vehicles.
He also added that 7,000 of these vehicles were currently in active service with the Indian Army - and nobody from the government or the forces has 'questioned the induction'.
Gen. Singh claims the 'agent' who offered him the bribe was recently retired from the Army and that Defence Minister A.K. Antony was informed about 'incident' immediately.
"Just imagine, one of these men had the gumption to walk up to me and tell me that if I cleared the tranche, he would give me Rs. 14 crore. He was offering a bribe to me, to the Army Chief. He told me that people had taken money before me and they will take money after me," General Singh was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
