AP HC directs Centre to release Srikrishna note
Stating that withholding of the secret note in the Justice Srikrishna Committee Report on bifurcation of the state was unconstitutional, the Andh-ra Pradesh high court on Wednesday directed the Centre to make the note public within two weeks.
Declaring that there were no sensitive or security aspects involved in the secret note as contended by the committee, the court said that the privilege claimed by the Union of India was untenable and withholding the note from the public was arbitrary, unreasonable and unconstitutional.
The court also felt that a meaningful discussion with reference to the report submitted by the Justice Srikrishna Committee could not take place unless the note was made public.
Referring to the contents of the note and a three-page supplement submitted by the Committee to the Centre, Justice L. Narasimha Reddy observed that the Committee had gone beyond its terms of reference to persuade the Centre not to accede to the demand of Telangana.

March 23: The death toll in the hooch tragedy in Bihar’s Nawada district rose to five on the second day on Wednesday. Consumption of spurious liquor, the second incident in just over a month in Bihar, led to six others being hospitalised.
Three middle-aged men and two women from poor families died at Simri village under Pakribarawan police station after drinking liquor which they had reportedly bought from shops during Holi.
