AP forcibly ends Naidu’s hungerstrike
The state government forcibly ended the Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s seven-day fast at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences as his health condition further deteriorated on Thursday.
A team of doctors led by Nims director, Dr P.V. Ramesh, along with Mr Naidu’s personal doctors, Dr Somaraju and Dr Nageshwar Reddy made a thorough examination of Mr Naidu health condition, his medical reports and administered intravenous fluids at around 7.30 pm.
Earlier, the chief minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who held an all party meeting, turned down Mr Naidu’s 20-point demand barring taking a delegation to New Delhi to seek adequate compensation from the Centre.
In a swift operation, the police besieged the ward where Mr Naidu was lodged, allowed doctors and Nims staff into it, sent away all those in the ward including wife Bhuvaneshwari and son Lokesh, and shifted him to the ICU to end the seven-day-old fast. Fearing backlash, security was also beefed up both outside and inside the Nims hospital. Dr Ramesh, who is also the principal secretary, health, said the doctors took the decision keeping in view Mr Naidu’s deteriorating health condition. He said there was no option but to shift Mr Naidu to the ICU and administer fluids.
