AP bags 4 top-10 JEE ranks
Hyderabad: Students from the state rewrote history in IIT entrance tests by bagging four of the top-10 ranks in the open category, including the all-India first rank in the first-ever JEE (Advanced)-2013 results announced on Friday. All these toppers are from Sri Chaitanya Narayana IIT Academy.
It was a `double dhamaka' for P. Sai Sandeep Reddy of Hyderabad, who not only topped the country in the JEE (Advanced), but also topped the Eamcet engineering stream. The son of P. Lakshminarasaiah, a teacher in a social welfare school in Prakasam district, he secured 986 marks in Intermediate and 563 marks in his Class X.

P. Sai Sandeep Reddy, who topped the country in the JEE (Advanced), said, “My dream is to pursue computer science engineering from IIT-Bombay and specialise in robotics. I was confident of securing a rank in top-10 in JEE Advanced from the beginning, but never thought that I would get the first rank.“
He added, “The entire credit goes to my parents, teachers and my institution, who guided me in the right direction.“ However, his father wants to see him as an IAS officer.
History was also created by a girl, from the state who cracked the top-10 barrier for the first time in the his tory of IITs. S. Leena Madhuri secured the allIndia 8th rank and was among the only two girls to figure in the elite bracket.
The other girl was from Madhya Pradesh, who got the 5th rank. Madhuri is planning to take up either ECE or CSE at IIT-Bombay .
“In the history of IIT, for the first time time we have women in the top-10 of the merit list,“ said prof. H.C. Gupta, organising chairman, JEE (advanced)-2013, IIT-Delhi. IIT-Delhi sprang a surprise by releasing the results late on Friday, without any notice, two days ahead of schedule. Nearly 2,500 students from the state are expected to make it to IITs this year, which offers a total of 9,647 seats.
While A. Ravi Chandra bagged the second rank, M. Viswa Virinchi got the 7th rank at the national-level. Ravi Chandra's parents hail from Prakasam district. He wants to study computer science engineering from IIT-Bombay and wants to get into research.
Cracking the IIT was a dream and his preparations started from Class VIII. His elder brother is also an IITian, presently pursuing his course at IIT-Madras. Interestingly, AP wins the first rank in the IIT entrance after a gap of two years.
Of the 1.5 lakh students who appeared for JEEadvanced, for admission into IITs and some other centrally-funded institutes, 21,110 students have qualified for 9,885 seats across these institutions.
Of these, 2,392 are women candidates. Not all who qualify get a berth at these institutes, but are a part of the extended merit list and get a chance for counselling and admissions only if the top scorers drop off the list.
Nearly 14,336 students will be called for counselling out of the 21,110 for counselling, starting June 24. Sri Chaitanya Narayana founders Dr B.S. Rao and Dr P. Narayana expressed happiness over the excellent performance of their students. They said their students have bagged 37 ranks in top-100 in OC category .
From FIITJEE Hyderabad the top rank was secured by K. Krishna Harsha Reddy (25th rank). JEE (advanced) rankers have to figure in top-20 percentile list of respective 10+2 board exams to be eligible for IIT.
