Ansari sets off RS storm with ‘anarchists’ remark
Agitated by repeated disruptions, Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on Tuesday wondered if members wished the House to become a “federation of anarchists”, a remark that immediately set off an uproar in the Upper House, with the BJP demanding its withdrawal and even the government saying it should be expunged.
Mr Ansari made the remark soon after the House took up Question Hour. BJP MPs stalled proceddings first over Kishtwar and then over Robert Vadra’s land deals. Congress MPs were also on their feet to counter the BJP attack.
After Mr Ansari’s pleas failed to get members to resume their seats, he said: “Every single rule in the rulebook, every single etiquette is being violated... If honourable members wish the House to become a federation of anarchists, then it is a different matter.” Amid uproar, he adjourned the House till noon.
