Another blast victim succumbs, toll 19
Yet another blast victim, Baburao Das (42), succumbed to his injuries early on Saturday at around 2.30 am at Saifee Hospital.
Das, a trader, who is originally from Kolkata, had been living in Mumbai for over 20 years. On Wednesday, he had gone to discuss a business deal with a friend at Panchratna Building in Opera House, when the incident occurred. He is survived by his wife, elderly mother and a 14-year-old son.
After the blast, locals rushed Das to Saifee Hospital. Initially, doctors had to amputate his right leg and he was kept on the ventilator, said a family member. “The blast just ripped off the flesh of his right leg. His left leg was also injured. He underwent an operation. We cannot really hold the hospital responsible. I think they tried their best to save his life, but his injuries were way too grievous,” said Das’ brother-in-law Kishore Parui. Meanwhile, many blast victims still remain critical and a few among them are battling for their lives. Out of the 34 patients who were admitted at Harkisondas Hospital in Opera House, five still remain critical and are in the ICU.
Dr P.M. Bhujang, the medical director of the hospital said, “We have discharged many, but five remain critical. One of them, Badlu Yadav, who suffers a lung injury, is now stable. But the condition of two other patients with skull and head injuries is critical.”
At KEM, nine blasts victims were brought in, out of them only one patient with a head injury remains critical, the remaining five are reportedly stable. At J.J. Hospital, as on Saturday night, there were 24 injured bomb blasts victims.
Thirty eight people injured in the Opera House blast, were admitted to Saifee Hospital.
