Another Bihar child abducted, killed
Yet another young boy abducted for ransom in Bihar was on Monday found to have been killed by his teenage abductors. The five-year-old boy’s murder by strangulation comes a day after the similar murder of a four-year-old amid a spate of abductions.
Golu, five, was abducted from near his house in Gaya’s Naisarak Mohalla on December 22 by two local teenagers who demanded `3 lakh from his father, Jeetendra Kumar. The two accused, Anshu and Ravi, told the police following their arrest on Monday that they had killed Golu the very day he was abducted. His body, buried on the banks of the Falgu river, is yet to be traced. The police managed to recover only his clothes.
The news of Golu’s abduction and murder came a day after the police in Vaishali district revealed that Niraj Rai, the four-year-old son of a vegetable seller, was killed by three teenagers who had abducted him on December 22. The arrested teenagers had been demanding `15 lakh from Neeraj’s father, Rampravesh Rai.
Upset by the numbing frequency of murders of abducted people, Bihar’s police headquarters on Monday reiterated plans to check abductions. ADGP (HQ) P.K. Thakur even suggested a plan to ask Bihar’s schools to teach children how to evade abduction attempts.
But recent weeks have seen what many describe as two disquieting new trends in Bihar’s resurgent abduction industry — killing of hostages just hours after their abduction and the involvement of teenagers.
