Anna gets Mumbai fast venue permit
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Monday granted permission to Team Anna to use the ground at the Bandra-Kurla Complex for his proposed indefinite fast from December 27.
The MMRDA, has allotted the ground at a charge of `6.40 per square metres per day until December 31 and then a revised fare of `8.40 per square metre daily will be applicable from January 1.
India Against Corruption (IAC) volunteers met Anil Wankhede, deputy metropolitan commissioner of the MMRDA on Monday and sought to book a space of 30,000 square metre on the ground for 15 days from December 27 to January 10.
“We have been offered the ground and the necessary submission of documents and security deposit will be done on Tuesday. The exact dates for the fast will be also submitted to the authority on Tuesday,” said Praful Vora, IAC volunteer.
Meanwhile, there is also a possibility that the proposed fast might be postponed for couple of days.
“As the Winter Session is likely to be extended, the fast might have to be postponed for a couple of days. We wish that a strong Jan Lokpal bill is passed in Parliament and then Anna will not have to fast at all,” added Mr Vora.
When asked if there was any security threat to Mr Hazare, he said, “While there is no threat, there will be commandos, the police and volunteers who will be stationed to monitor the security”.
The IAC stated that they would set up a communication centre, VIP enclosure and accommodation for Mr Hazare at the venue, which will be handed over to them from December 27.
Later in the day, IAC also met deputy commissioner of police (ZoneVIII) Satyanarayan Chaudhary to discuss the issues pertaining to the planning and security at the event.
