Anna to fast in Mumbai: IAC
The venue of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare’s indefinite fast has been changed to Mumbai and he will arrive in the city on December 26, confirmed India Against Corruption (IAC) on Thursday.
The volunteers in the city met deputy commissioner of police (Zone-1) Cherring Dorje and assured him that there will be no overcrowding at Azad Maidan where the proposed fast will be held from December 27.
“Anna will start his indefinite fast on December 27 from 10 am. We had a successful meeting with the police and have assured them that we will make arrangements to keep the crowd mobile,” said Praful Vora, IAC volunteer.
When asked about the security concerns, as the venue is close to many vital installations and government offices, Mr Vora said, “There have been peaceful protests at Azad Maidan in the past too and no untoward incident has been reported.”
IAC volunteers have assured them that the crowd will be streamlined and there will be no crowding. “We have sought for a 30-day permission and the response from the police is positive,” added Mr Vora.
While senior policemen could not be contacted despite repeated attempts, a police officer from Zone 1 office, requesting anonymity said, “As of now, we have not given any permission. The meeting was to discuss their plans. We will now forward those details to senior officers who will take a call on it.”
