Amar summoned today; Cong, SP get clean chit

The Delhi police told a city court Thursday that it had found no evidence suggesting that either the Congress or the Samajwadi Party had contacted Suhail Hindustani, a BJP worker who allegedly “orchestrated” the 2008

cash-for-votes scam. The noose, meanwhile, appears to be tightening around expelled Samajwadi leader Amar Singh, who has virtually gone underground even since investigations into the scam intensified after the Supreme Court castigated the police.
The police on Thursday issued notice to Mr Amar Singh to appear for questioning at the crime branch’s inter-state cell at Chanakyapuri on Friday. He is likely to face some tough questions on his alleged role in the scam. Crime branch sources said Mr Singh will be confronted with statements by Hindustani that the cash was procured from his (Amar Singh’s) residence. Hindustani also alleged that the money was arranged by the former SP leader to garner support for UPA-1.
The police custody of both Hindustani, who was arrested Wednesday, and Sanjeev Saxena, a close Amar Singh aide held earlier, was extended for another day.
