Aligarh tense over harassment
Tension gripped Atrauli area in Aligarh district, UP, on Saturday after a girl was allegedly harassed by three youth belonging to another community.
Muzaffarnagar, however, was peaceful and curfew was relaxed for 12 hours on Saturday.
According to police reports, in Aligarh, the girl who was on her way to college, was allegedly accosted and harassed by three motorcycle-borne youth on Friday. The girl raised an alarm and bystanders nabbed one of the youth, while the other two escaped. There was tension in the area following the incident as leaders of different organisations reached there. Senior district officials also rushed to the spot and another culprit was nabbed.
The police said a strict vigil is being maintained at Atrauli and neighbouring villages.
Meanwhile, vigil is also being maintained in Muzaffarnagar which remained peaceful. Tension, however, continues to prevail in the rural areas. ADG (law and order) Arun Kumar told reporters that DNA samples of all bodies that were being recovered in a highly decomposed state or were beyond recognition were being preserved.
