Akhilesh will lead team at Plan panel meet
After a gap of five years, the Uttar Pradesh chief minister will attend the annual meeting at the Planning Commission on Wednesday.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is not following on the precedence set by former chief minister Ms Mayawati who never attended annual meeting when she headed the Uttar Pradesh state government.
Unlike Ms Mayawati who used to send senior officials for the meetings, Mr Yadav will be leading a delegation of top state officials to the Planning Commission on Wednesday.
The Plan panel meeting will be taking place just a week after extensive meeting which the principal secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Pulok Chaterjee had with a number of senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh government.
“We expect the Planning Commission to approve a higher plan size, which will reflect the priority of the state government under the leadership of Mr Yadav,” said a senior official of the state government.
Mr Yadav had addressed over 38 letters to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in which he had taken up the demands concerning various state departments. “After the meeting in the PMO, the state government is hopeful that the demands raised by the chief minister in his various letters to the Prime Minister will be addressed.”
The state government is hopeful that out of the `90,000 crores, which were needed to address various demands of the state government, the Centre will release about `50,000 crores under various Centrally sponsored schemes.
