Akhilesh, ministers vent ire on media
UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and his ministers on Tuesday vented their ire on the media in the Durga Shakti Nagpal case.
During a official function here on Tuesday, the chief minister said, “Should the government take action against those who are trying to disturb communal harmony or not? We have given Durga Nagpal a chargesheet and the matter is being probed.”
Mr Yadav read out a SMS from his mobile which said that his popularity had fallen by 95 per cent and of the 2,333 people interviewed, only five per cent felt that his popularity remained unchanged.
“This SMS has come to me from Bengaluru and if you are asking questions based on such SMSes then I will not reply to your questions,” he said.
UP minister for health Ahmad Hasan, at the same function, said that the media had made Durga Shakti Nagpal more popular than Amitabh Bachchan.
“The media is suffering from Durga Nagpal phobia. Nearly 95 per cent of mediapersons are my friends but there are five per cent black sheep amidst you and you must try to reform them. All of you have shown photographs of the suspended officer but no one has bothered to show a photograph of the demolished mosque wall. Where will this country and this state go to? Why don’t you people let an honest chief minister do his work?” he asked.
Another senior UP minister Mohammed Azam Khan said that Ms Nagpal had got enough popularity through her suspension. “People do not get this kind of popularity even after toiling for years and it is all thanks to the media,” he pointed out.
