Akhilesh govt bans VHP yatra
The Akhilesh Yadav government, on Sunday imposed prohibitory orders in Ayodhya to thwart the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s “Panch Kosi Parikrama.” The prohibitory orders will remain in force until September 30, official sources said.
However, individual devotees will be allowed to perform the Parikrama that covers a 15 km route in Ayodhya. “We will not allow saints and VHP activists to undertake the Parikrama in groups,” said a senior official in Lucknow. Former BJP MP and VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti, meanwhile, said that the VHP would go ahead with its programme and saints and seers will court arrest if stopped form undertaking the Parikrama. The VHP 84-Kosi Parikrama in August this year had also been banned by the state government and several top VHP leaders had been arrested. Faizabad district magistrate Vipin Dwiwedi told reporters that the Panch Kosi Parikrama was being organised with the intention of forging communal polarisation for the construction of Ram temple.
The use of loudspeakers, banners and flags will not be permitted and no meeting can be held in view of the prohibitory orders. Individuals can undertake the Parikrama in the area,” he said. Saints carrying tridents and other sharp-edged weapons will not be allowed to move ahead.
VHP spokesperson Sharad Sharma said that the VHP would commence the Parikrama from Saryu Ghat on Monday.
Meanwhile, Ayodhya on Sunday, saw a heavy deployment of police forces and IG (law and order) R.K. Vishwakarma) said that eleven companies of para-military forces had been deployed in the holy city.
