Akhil Gogoi wants return of govt land
RTI activist Akhil Gogoi here on Friday threatened industrialists in Assam to return the government land that they have procured for trading purpose.
Serving ultimatum to business houses indulging in trading of farm and government land, Mr Gogoi said, “If they fail to surrender such land we will bring landless flood victims living on embankments of river and give them settlement on these government lands.”
Clarifying that they are not opposed to industry and giving land for setting up industry, Mr Gogoi, who is also the leader of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, said, “We are opposing the trading in farm and government land.”
“Whatever land is required for setting up an industry, it must be given to businessmen but the way land is procured at `15000 a bigha from the government and sold at `12 lakh a katha is nothing but scam.”
Accusing the involvement of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma into the land scam, Mr Gogoi also organised a massive protest outside M/S Brahmaputra Infrastructure Ltd of Suresh Prithani who is known for his proximity to the chief minister and his family.
