Akalis taking credit for projects: Capt.
Pressing on with his new broadside against the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP Coalition, former chief minister and Punjab Congress chief Capt. Amarinder Singh on Tuesday charged the government of trying to take credit for infrastructure projects planned and initiated under Congress rule.
Specifically citing new power projects in the state, Capt. Singh said deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal’s claims about having started the projects at Goindwal, Talwandi Sabo and Rajpura were “patently false” because approval for all these was in fact granted during his (Amarinder’s) tenure.
“Every power project that the present government is touting as its own achievement was in fact conceived and approved way back in the September of 2006 — six months before the SAD-BJP assumed office,” he said.
Capt. Singh said, “When they took over the government (February 2007) they said Punjab would be power surplus within three years, what to speak of becoming power surplus they could not generate a single extra unit of power during these past four years.”
Capt. Singh said the government had even failed to adequately follow through on the Congress’ power projects.
