Ailing Rajinikanth to be flown to Singapore
Superstar Rajinikanth will fly to Singapore Friday night for further treatment, sources close to his family told this newspaper Thursday. He is now being treated at Chennai’s Sri Ramachandra Hospital.
They said Rajini is booked as a “wheelchair passenger” on a Singapore Airlines flight and will travel in
his “passport name” — Shivaji Rao. Some family members — perhaps wife Latha and daughter Aishwarya — will accompany him.
The family is trying to get permission for the 61-year-old star’s ambulance to be driven straight on to the tarmac at Chennai airport Friday, the source added. Rajinikanth’s wife Latha and daughter Aishwarya could not be reached for confirmation as they were talking to doctors at the hospital till late Thursday night.
Doctors here have said Rajini is cheerful and recovering well, but his travelling abroad for further treatment and recuperation has been on the cards for some time. He was admitted to hospital on May 13 with gastroenteritis and pneumonia. His fans got worried when he was shifted to the ICU on May 18. Doctors removed excess fluid from his chest and put him on temporary dialysis. On May 22, he was back in a private hospital room.
