AIIMs may opt out of common med entrance
The ambitious proposal to hold Common Entrance Test (CET) for MBBS aspirants from next year seems to have run into rough weather, again.
After refusing to hold post graduate entrance exam for students across the country, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences has now told the government that it does not want to join the common under graduate exam too.
The decision on the matter will be taken at the next AIIMS governing body meeting.
Sources say AIIMS is an autonomous body and under Act of the Parliament it can conduct its own exams. “AIIMS maintains higher standards and following CET syllabus would mean reducing its status, which is uncalled for,” an AIIMS source said.
The ministry is also trying to convince AIIMS for conducting PG exam. “They have an experience in conducting the exam that’s why we approached them. But they expressed their inability in conducting it,” said a senior official at the health ministry.
