After TMC leader arrest, Rezzak aide goes in hiding
The arrest of ex-Trinamul MLA Arabul Islam for allegedly orchestrating the attack on senior CPI(M) MLA Abdur Rezzak Mollah on January 6 appears to have boomeranged on the CPI(M) within 24 hours as Mr Rezzak Mollah’s close aide Sattar Mollah has gone underground fearing his arrest amidst tension in Bhangar, in West Bengal.
Mr Sattar Mollah, a district CPI(M) leader, is accused of firing at Mr Islam at Bamanghata in South 24 Parganas on January 8.
The Trinamul Congress had then lodged a complaint with the police against Mr Sattar Mollah and another CPI(M) leader Tushar Ghosh.
After Mr Islam’s arrest on Thursday, the police is now after Mr Sattar Mollah. He is yet to be traced.
A section of the Trinamul Congress leaders pointed out that if Mr Islam could be arrested, then Mr Sattar Mollah should also not be spared.
Since his arrest, Mr Islam has been lodged at the lock-up of the Sonarpur police station under tight security. During several rounds of interrogations on Friday, he, however, denied his role into the assault on the CPI(M) MLA and rather alleged that Mr Sattar Mollah had fired on him, according to sources.
CPI(M) district secretary of South 24 Parganas Sujan Chakraborty, however, maintained that Mr Sattar Mollah is neither underground nor roaming openly.
