‘Acts of deceit can’t scare us’
Expressing outrage over the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistan, the Congress on Tuesday demanded “appropriate” measures at the highest level but rejected the BJP’s criticism of the government on this, reminding it of Kargil war during the NDA rule.
“Indian nation could not be cowed down by such blatant acts of deceit,” Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said and urged the government to take up appropriate measures.
Expressing deep grief and shock over the incident in Jammu & Kashmir, she said that the entire Congress party as indeed the entire country stands by the families of the martyred soldiers.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also urged the government to take this proactive act by Pak at the highest level, the Congress general secretary and AICC’s communication department chief Ajay Maken tweeted.
He said Mr Gandhi has expressed shock and pain at the cowardly killing of 5 of our Jawans by Pakistan.
The Congress spoke-sperson Bhakta Charan Das told reporters at the party briefing that Mr Gandhi urged the government for “steps” to be taken “at the highest level”, Mr Das, however, rejected the BJP’s criticism of “weak” handling of the issue by the government.
“BJP should not forget even before Kargil war happened. What was the compulsion,” he said.
