Achuthanandan to move SC on Sree Padmanabha temple
The opposition leader of Kerala Assembly, V.S. Achuthanandan, said on Tuesday that he would bring the allegations regarding the disappearance of wealth from the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple to the attention of the Supreme Court
The Marxist veteran’s comment the other day that Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, the head of the Travancore Royal family, used to spirit out gold from the temple had triggered a row.
Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Achuthanandan said that he had only reiterated allegations made by employees of the temple. “It is not my allegation,” he said. “Some temple employees gave me a complaint making this charge.”
He said that it was intriguing that the security staff who made such allegations were dismissed from the temple.
“They had complained that wealth had disappeared from the temple. We have to find out who was behind all this. I am planning to bring all these issues before the attention of the Supreme Court,” he said.
While Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy had criticised Achuthanandan’s statement, the CPI(M) leader and former finance minister Thomas Isaac said it was consistent with the party stance on royalty.
