Achutha pulled up for criticising CPM stand
The CPI(M) politburo has pulled up the opposition leader, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, for his open criticism of its stance on the Mullaperiyar dam row.
The politburo’s displeasure was conveyed to Mr Achuthanandan at the CPI(M) state secretariat meeting being held here.
Earlier this month, the politburo had issued a statement asking Kerala and Tamil Nadu to settle the row amicably taking into account the concerns of the people of both the states.
Mr Achuthanandan openly expressed disappointment at the statement saying that it did not reflect the concerns of the people of Idukki and other districts who were living in fear after the recent tremors. It is learnt that most leaders who took part in the meet felt that former Kerala chief minister Achuthanandan should not have criticised the PB publicly.

Ulfa claims minister is its ex-member
Guwahati, Dec. 18: The militant-politician nexus in Assam once again hit the headlines with an outlawed separatist group claiming that a senior minister was one of its former members and that it openly campaigned for the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) during an earlier election. The United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa), in an emailed statement received by IANS, claimed that Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was once its members. “Himanta Biswa Sarma, a former member of Ulfa’s political wing, is giving statements against Ulfa, which shows his poor knowledge about the revolution. In fact, his lack of knowledge forced him to leave Ulfa,” the Paresh Baruah faction of the ULFA said. — IANS
