7th operative of IM cell arrested in Darbhanga
The special cell of the police arrested another operative of the Indian Mujahideen’s terror module from Bihar on Tuesday, taking the total number of operatives of the IM module busted last week by the Delhi police to seven.
Top special cell sources said the accused, identified as Farooq, was arrested from a village in Darbh-anga during a Tuesday afternoon raid. A tip-off led the police to his hideout and he didn’t offer any resistance. “He is being brought to Delhi where he will be produced in a court on Wednesday,” a senior police official said.
Police sources claimed Farooq is allegedly involved in the bomb blast at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru last year. “We have recovered some arms and ammunition along with some documents from his possession. We have information that he had planted the bomb at Chinnaswamy Stadium along with two other IM operatives. He will be questioned along with six other operatives who were arrested earlier to establish their involvement in other terror cases in the country,” the official said.
Sources said Farooq was asked by the IM’s elusive leader, Yasin Bhatkal, to reconnoitre Chinnaswa-my Stadium along with two other operatives before he asked them to plant a blast at the venue.
