7th body extricated from Sindhurakshak
Another body was extricated on Monday from the submarine INS Sindhurakshak that witnessed a major tragedy last week. The Naval divers have managed to locate the body after they broke into the six and seventh compartment of the submarine. This brings the total number of bodies recovered from the vessel to seven.
As many as 18 Navy men were on board when two explosions rocked the kilo class submarine on the night of August 13. The Navy’s rescuer launched a massive search operation and after two days, the first body was extricated. Though seven bodies have been extricated so far, eleven bodies are yet to be recovered.
According to the Navy officials, it might not be possible for them to recover some of the remaining bodies, as the intense heat that was generated from the armaments within the ship caused the components within the submarine to melt. The officials believe that the bodies could have been incinerated in the heat.
The Navy officials will also carry out a repeat search of all the compartments in order to ensure that the divers have not missed any body.
