Farooq demands I-T inquiry against Geelani
Jammu, Sept. 11: Union minister Farooq Abdullah on Sunday demanded a probe into what he said collections made by Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other separatists in the name of youths killed in last year’s summer unrest in the Valley and rebuilding the gutted Chrar-e-Sharief shrine.
“Investigation should be conducted by the income tax department into the huge money collected by Mr Geelani and other separatists in the name of boys killed in 2010 unrest and rebuilding the Chrar-e-Sharief shrine,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
“When the shrine was burnt, Geelani blew the bugle not to accept government money for its construction. But where is the `3 crore collected by him? He has not given the account about it,” the National Conference chief said.
Targeting Mr Geelani, the minister for new and renewable energy said “what is he telling people? When boys were killed last year, money was collected. Where is the money? This must be investigated.”

Actress in darshan row may get boot
Age CORRESPONDENT
Bengaluru, Sept. 11
In a curious twist to the Darshan saga, the Karnataka Film Producers’ Association on Sunday “unanimously” decided to suspend actress Nikitha, allegedly linked to the star, for a period of three years. The producers decided to suspend the actress blaming her for the entire episode involving Challenging Star Darshan, who ended up in jail for allegedly assaulting his wife. Interestingly, the actor, who is undergoing treatment, has been spared. The president of the association, Mr Muniratna, said a decision to this effect was taken at a meeting based on the complaint by Vijayalaksmi, wife of Darshan, who has named the actress as one of the reasons for the issue.
