6 booked for rape in Haryana
Six men have been booked for raping a management student from Rajasthan in this Haryana town, the police said on Saturday. Investigations are in progress and arrests are likely to be made shortly, said investigating officer Ramesh Kumar, who is the station house officer (SHO) of the Narnaul city police station.
“No arrest has been made so far. But we will arrest the culprits soon,” Mr Kumar said. The victim, according to the police, is an MBA (Master of Business Administration) student from Jaipur in Rajasthan and had come here to market products of a company with which she was working part-time. She had on Thursday checked into a hotel.

Fatwa bans use of DJs, dowry show

Jan. 1: Through a fatwa issued by the Muslim clerics of Jamiat Ulema Hind, a ban has been sought on using Disc Jockeys (DJ) and display of dowry goods by community members during weddings.
The clerics have termed the trend as against Islamic law and have asked the clergy not to perform “nikaah” in marriages where DJs are a part of celebrations and where dowry is exhibited.

Jaipur, Jodhpur get police commissioners

Jan. 1: The state government has introduced commissionerate system of policing for Jaipur and Jodhpur from Saturday by appointing Indian Police Service officer B.L. Soni as Jaipur’ s first police commissioner while B.K. Dak will be the police commissioner for Jodhpur.
According to government sources, the commissionerate system has been launched for better policing. The ruling Congress party had promised during elections that it will strengthen the police system in Jaipur and Jodhpur and made it a part of its election manifesto.

1 killed as train hits trucks

Jan. 1: One person was killed and two others injured when a train rammed into two trucks in Jaunpur district on Saturday morning after the train driver “failed to notice” the red signal at a level crossing. The accident occurred at the level crossing gate of the Babura railway crossing, where the Amritsar-Sealdah Akal Takth Express rammed into the two trucks. The train was heading to Sealdah in West Bengal from Amritsar in Punjab. The driver of one of the trucks died on the spot and two others, including the driver of the second truck, have been critically injured.
