5 poachers get 7-year jail term
A local court in Alwar found five persons guilty of poaching the tiger in Sariska reserve and sentenced them to seven years’ imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of `1.30 lakh on each of them. This was the seventh case since year 2007 when the court sentenced the poachers under the Wild Life Act.
The judgment was announced on Friday by first additional chief judicial magistrate, Alwar, Himankani Gour. Those convicted includes Alwar district’s Juhru Mev, Ramzan Mev, Taiyab and Nuru and another convict Jeevan Kalbeliya from Haryana. The prosecution did not file a chargesheet against one of the suspect Nawab, who died during the investigation.
The defence pleaded not guilty and said they were innocent. According to the prosecution, the forest officials took Juhru Mev in custody in 2005.
