5 innovators fly to Silicon Valley

Thiruvananthapuram: Five young innovators from Kerala have been selected from among 1,268 persons, who turned up for the first edition of Startup Village, to fly to Silicon Valley.
Arvind Sanjeev, Vijith Padmanabhan, Akash Mathew, Nithin George and Jibin Jose, all aged around 22, will soon fly to Silicon Valley at government expense and interact with top leaders of the industry.The SV Square programme was announced in November 2012 to promote young entrepreneurs. It was officially launched in January and applications were received till April. From among the1,268 applications, 100 were shortlisted and screened by an expert panel. The final five were selected by a panel comprising NASSCOM former president Mr Kiran Karnik and Prof. Anil Gupta of IIM, Ahmedabad.
Arvind Sanjeev, founder CEO of ARS Devices and an engineering graduatefrom TocH Institute of Science and Technology, has a dozen innovations to his credit. Ride Smart, an application to control carsusing smart phones, and a Power and Internet Logger to monitor thestatus of power supply and internet are the latest.
ShoutCrow, a social network application, is the latest innovation fromVijith Padmanabhan, co-founder and chief executive officer of Dolojo Labs and engineering graduate from Model Engineering College. The application enables customised sharing of contents on a website or Youtube footage over social networks.
Akash Mathew, CEO and co-founder at CIED Technologies and an engineering graduate from Rajagiri Engineering College, started his journey with passion for electronic circuits from school. His major innovation, Crush, a Facebook app to connect persons with mutual crush, has user base in over 100 countries.
QPlay that makes streaming of files on smart phones, tablets, laptops and PCs through television set with a single-click was one of the major innovations of Nithin George, an engineering graduate from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology-RIT and co-founder and chief executive officer of QPlay Tech in Kottayam.
Jibin Jose, a fourth-year engineering student at TocH Institute of Science & Technology, has launched Dot Retail, a mobile phone-based application that helps retail shops to publicise their shops. He has formed a firm Dot Retail.
