The power crisis row in Kashmir got uglier on Monday when Central Industrial Security Force personnel guarding an NHPC office at Boniyar, Uri, near the Line of Control, fired on a protesting crowd, killing a youth and injuring two other older people.
Five CISF men were arrested by the local police. Chief minister Omar Abdullah called it a “tragic beginning of the New Year”, and the state government lodged a strong protest with the MHA.
The five arrested men were identified as sub-inspector Krishan Thapa, havaldar Dwarka Prashad and constables Raju Ranjan, Ajay Singh and Mohammad Shabir.
