4,700 still missing in hills
Three members of a family were on Monday killed in a house-collapse as a fresh spell of rain stalled relief operations in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand, where the authorities said that the number of people missing has mounted to over 4,700. Two women and a child belonging to one family were killed when the ceiling of their house collapsed in Vikasn-agar area of Dehra Dun, officials here said.
The roof of the house caved in under the impact of debris from the hills, killing them on the spot, they said. About eight houses in Urgam valley of Chamoli district were damaged due to heavy rain on Monday, forcing the occupants to vacate them.

Rupee sinks to all-time low of 61.21 to $
Age Correspondent
Mumbai, July 8
The rupee slumped to a record low of 61.21 to the dollar on Monday after the US greenback rallied higher against a basket of currencies after better-than-expec-ted US jobs data for June renewed concerns of an early withdrawal of the multi-billion-dollar asset purchase by the US Fed.
The rupee breached its psychological 61-level mark to hit an all-time low of 61.21 to the dollar before recouping some losses after suspected intervention by the RBI. The partially convertible rupee ended the session at 60.66 to the dollar, as compared to the previous day’s close of 60.22.
