40 tickets for Youth Cong nominees?
Under the leadership of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, the Youth Congress is gearing up to make a mark on a bigger stage and is hopeful of getting the nod for its nominees to contest about 40 Assembly seats in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh state elections.
“So far, 23 of the Youth Congress leaders have been given party tickets to contest the UP Assembly out of the total 213 candidates announced so far. Finally, we are hopeful that about 40 of our nominees will contest the UP elections,” said Indian Youth Congress president Rajeev Satav. A large number of the Youth Congress nominees are likely to get the nod of the party to contest the Assembly elections in five states going to polls next year. “Even in the Assembly elections for five states this year a total of 44 nominees of the Youth Congress contested the polls and 23 of them emerged victorious,” said Mr Satav about the transformation process introduced by Mr Gandhi in the organisation.
While Mr Gandhi is toiling hard in UP to ensure that the Congress emerges as an alternative to the ruling BSP led by Ms Mayawati, the Youth Congress is hopeful that it has enough trained cadre on the ground to strengthen the party in the cow belt. The Youth Congress is banking on about one crore members that it has added in UP to ensure that the party wins a large number of Assembly seats in the state.
Mr Satav said that the Youth Congress organised “Jan Sunwai (public hearing)” in 13 districts in UP where the issues of the people were not only taken up, but were also being pursued to their logical conclusions by extensively using the Right to Information Act.
Mr Satav said that the Youth Congress has elected office-bearers in three zones of UP, while elections in the eastern zone would be held in a fortnight. “We can say that a large number of office-bearers of the Youth Congress have come into the political process without any backing. The process of political transformation of the youth is now taking place and its impact will be seen in the elections in five states.”
added Mr Satav.
